»My repertoire for 2020 is centred on Beethoven’s 250th birthday. As well as the Romances, the Violin Concerto, the Triple Concerto and the worldwide performance of the Ten Sonatas, it was time and again his piano and string trios that accompanied and inspired me over the years. With the wonderfully lamenting E-flat major string quartet, my childhood dream to finally venture into the cycle of late chamber music works came true. Jörg Widmann picks up the musical theme with the commissioned composition ›Studie über Beethoven‹ (Study On Beethoven) and shows us the way to a new quartet orbit.« (Anne-Sophie Mutter)
