Isabelle Faust, Sol Gabetta, Kristian Bezuidenhout & Giovanni Antonini

Basel Chamber Orchestra
Isabelle Faust, violin
Sol Gabetta, cello
Kristian Bezuidenhout, piano
Conducted by Giovanni Antonini

As Ludwig van Beethoven's only orchestral work with a solo cellonpart, his Triple Concerto has always been of special significance, especially as the cello plays a leading part here alongside the violin and the piano. Among the three solo voices, it is the first to present recurring themes and ideas. This peculiarity of this work from 1804 has given rise to the fine tradition of important cellists – who otherwise have few opportunities of playing together outside the realms of chamber music – joining forces with solo violinists and pianists for its performance.

And so it was a few years ago for a CD recording of the Basel Chamber Orchestra under the baton of its principal guest conductor Giovanni Antonini with Sol Gabetta on cello. The orchestra, conductor and soloist are now coming to Munich to perform the Triple Concerto with a top-class line-up. Gabetta, who lives in Switzerland, will be joined by the multi-award-winning German violinist Isabelle Faust and the South African born Australian harpsichordist and pianist Kristian Bezuidenhout.
