BR Chorus Summit with the Austrian Musicbanda Franui
Bavarian Radio Chorus
Musicbanda Franui
Artistic Director: Howard Arman
Replacement date for 12 February 2022 / 4th chorus subscription concert / without concert introduction

What the BR Chorus and Franui have in common? Gustav Mahler’s music and sense of montage, persiflage, caricature and folklore. Both ensembles have set out to present the complexity of Mahler’s compositions in new arrangements and perspectives – in a concert evening that promises extraordinary sound, sensuality and quirkiness, plus a surprise or two.
The programme includes works by Carl Loewe and Gustav Mahler in new arrangements or »re-compositions« by Markus Kraler, Andreas Schett and Howard Arman.
About the Ensemble Franui
Made up of woodwind, brass and strings instruments, the Musicbanda Franui from the small village of Innervillgraten in East Tyrol is known for its idiosyncratic sound. Franui has made a name for itself with distinctive »adaptations« of dances, funeral marches and songs by Romantic composers, such as Schubert, Brahms and Schumann – and Mahler. The ten East Tyrolean musicians refer to Mahler as their neighbour, since his »composer’s cottage« in Toblach is just over the mountain from Innervillgraten.
