Michael Jochum founded »Projekt Fotografie« thirty years ago at the Munich Volkshochschule.

During the 1980s, when photography still had to struggle for recognition as an art form, Jochum created a photographic school of perception – open to all those who wanted to deal fundamentally with the image and its aesthetics and were in search of a personal pictorial language. Over the last three decades, »Projekt Fotografie« has established itself as an important place for free artistic photography, where participants question societal layers of meaning within the photographic image in a discursive exchange, while developing their own concepts of image.

In cooperation with the Department of Photography & Video/Film and to commemorate the anniversary, Aspekte Galerie is showing works by participants of »Projekt Fotografie« and by Michael Jochum in this exhibition. A broad spectrum of imaging can be seen: from serial black-and-white prints on barite and colour tableaus to expansive photographic installations, photo magazines and artists’ books.

Katrin Habenschaden, Munich’s Deputy Mayor, will speak at the exhibition’s opening.
With the kind support of the Verein der Förderer und Freunde der Münchner Volkshochschule e. V. (VFF), a catalogue will be published to accompany the exhibition.
