The graduates of the Iwanson International School of Contemporary Dance complete their three-year training programme with a choreographic diploma project featuring themselves as both dance soloist and choreographer. This is one of the most difficult of all choreographic assignments. As in auteur cinema, the choreographer is always in the dual role of both author and director. In their own solo pieces, the choreographers then take on the additional role of performer, of dancer.
In this balancing act, the director must rein in the vain dancer while the author cannot allow the excessive director too free a hand. A solitary Menage à trois.
Exactly because of this high level of difficulty, the solo programme is the subject material for the Iwanson International students’ diploma performance.
This assignment also builds a bridge into the professional workplace, allowing these young dancers to present their skill at any time in the future, be it in auditions, festivals or competitions.
Artistic direction of the first performance (6 PM): Regine Blum and Minka-Marie Heiß
