Juan Diego Flórez, tenor
Conductor: Jader Bignamini
Fascinating, that »after the time of the princes, we are now finding ourselves in an era of defeated, multi-layered characters«, says one who has perfectly embodied the rare voice type of the »tenore di grazia« on stages throughout the world over the past decades. The career of Juan Diego Flórez, one of today’s few top tenors, has already lasted almost a quarter of a century: Since he became famous in the mid-1990s in Pesaro in Italy, the cradle of bel canto, his tenor shines especially when he performs Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti.
In recent years, however, the Peruvian has increasingly been attracted to the more dramatic, sometimes sombre and melancholic Fach. And where can you find this in greater musical fullness and beauty than with Giuseppe Verdi? As part of his latest album and concert tour, Flórez also dedicates an aria evening to him at the Gasteig Philharmonic Hall, where he will lend his voice to such contrasting personalities as Violetta’s Alfredo from »La Traviata« and »Rigoletto’s« the Duca di Mantova.
