»World Star Powerhouse on Stage«
Conducted by Jakub Hrůša
Klaus Maria Brandauer is doubtless one of the most important actors in the German-speaking world. A thrilling acting genius, a magician who hypnotizes his audience and keeps them in suspense, who succeeds – with no frills, just a table and chair – in eliciting standing ovations from his audience. In more than 50 years on stage and in film, he has become widely known through his worldwide successes – the Bond movie »Never Say Never Again«, with »Out of Africa« and »Mephisto«. The great Brandauer – a powerhouse on stage!
The incidental music for the play »Egmont« represents a meeting of two of Germany’s classical-era heavyweights: Ludwig van Beethoven, who composed the music; and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, whom the composer greatly admired. From scandalous play to hit: Stravinsky’s elemental »Sacre« is today part of the standard classical repertoire. A sensational masterpiece, the wildness of never-heard rhythms in superb instrumentation – from the initial ghostly high bassoon solo to chords beating in unison in the finale – powerful and at times explosive.
