Conducted by Robin Ticciati
Winning the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw usually means that, having just been a young up-and-coming musician, you suddenly stand head-to-head with such greats as Martha Argerich, Maurizio Pollini and Krystian Zimerman, whose world careers had also begun there.
Pianist Seong-Jin Cho won the competition in 2015 and, as the first Korean winner, triggered a classical music boom in his home country. Now 25 years old, Cho has become one of the most sought-after pianists internationally. The Süddeutsche Zeitung described his playing as »internalised, not superficial« and »passionate«.
Cho now performs with many of the world’s best orchestras, including the Berlin and London Philharmonic Orchestras. With the latter, Seong-Jin Cho is coming to Munich in March 2020. Their programme will include Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 4, the middle movement of which Robert Schumann once called the »great mysterious Adagio«.
