Musicality of the highest order, tonal beauty, expressiveness and passion are qualities attributed to the classical guitarist Evgeni Finkelstein. Widely regarded as representative of the Russian school of classical guitar, his mentors at the Gnessin State Musical College Moscow were Professor Aleksander Frauchi and the composer Nikita Koschkin. The charismatic musician has won several international prizes and is a professor at the Moscow State Institute of Culture. He has performed at the Moscow Conservatory, the St. Petersburg State Academic Capella, the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Salzburg Mozarteum as well as in Paris, Madrid and other European and Asian cities.
The first part of the programme is dedicated to the masterpieces of Western European baroque composers: H. Purcell, G. Zamboni and de Sainte-Colombe – works replete with majesty and harmony. In the second part of the concert, the musician turns to the masterpieces of Russian guitar music of the 19th and 20th centuries: N. Alexandrov and W. Schebalin, works full of exciting drama and sharp contrasts.
