Composer, writer and politician Mikis Theodorakis was born on the island of Chios in 1925 and is regarded as one of the most famous Greek composers of the 20th century. Especially his film scores for »Zorba the Greek«, »Z« and »Serpico« as well as the setting of the »Canto General« based on the verses of Pablo Neruda attracted worldwide attention. His oeuvre, which comprises over one thousand works, includes symphonic compositions and a large number of songs.

From »Z« to »Zorba«! »My whole life has been an eternal struggle between ideal and reality, the everyday and vision.« Mikis Theodorakis is a political icon and musical ambassador of his country – he still weighs in on matters, in both word and deed. On the occasion of his 95th birthday, his orchestra dedicated a concert to him, centred on his most important songs (»Z«, »Canto General«, »State of Siege« and many more) as well as the moving melodies from films and, of course, the legendary »Zorba«.

Happy Birthday Mikis!
