Cinema International

For seven years now, the MITTEL PUNKT EUROPA film festival has been focusing our attention on our eastern neighbours and their filmmaking. The terrible war in Ukraine has once again made us more aware of this neighbourly connection. It makes us realise how urgently we must engage in cultural dialogue with these societies.

The curated festival shows outstanding documentaries and feature films from Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Belarus, Slovakia and Ukraine. They include »Roses. Film-Cabaret«, a documentary about the Ukrainian performance band Dakh Daughters; the Polish feature film »Other People« (»Inni ludzie«) (2021) based on the bestseller of the same name by Dorota Masłowska; the Czech intimate play »Okupace«, awarded Best Czech Film 2021; the fugue-like »The Forest« by Hungarian director Bence Fliegauf; and the Slovakian drama »Mothers«, main prizewinner of the Cottbus Film Festival.
