Hélène Grimaud, piano
Conductor: Teodor Currentzi
Unconventional – of course in the most positive sense of the word – is how both of the artistic personalities, who will get together in the Philharmonie for a Franco-Russian programme, can be described: the Greek-Russian conductor Teodor Currentzis and Hélène Grimaud, the French pianist who has made a name for herself both with her exceptional world career spanning almost three decades and as an animal welfare and human rights activist and author. Her approach to music is characterized by an electrifying sensuality, individuality in her interpretation and superior virtuosity.
At her performance in the Philharmonie, Ravel's late, Mozartian piano concerto in G major, which the composer himself conceived as »serene and bright«, stands in charming contrast to the passionate sea of emotions of Prokofiev's ballet music for »Romeo and Juliet«.
