Musical in 2 acts by Frederick Loewe and Alan Jay Lerner
Based on Bernard Shaw’s »Pygmalion« and the film by Gabriel Pascal
Performed in German language/Bavarian dialect
Recommended from 10 years
Duration: 160 minutes. An interval after about 80 minutes
In the Miesbach version of Freies Landestheater Bayern, Professor Higgins turns the Bavarian flower girl Eliza into a lady. The road from slang to the language of polite society turns out to be stony, but thanks to Higgins’ unorthodox methods also highly entertaining.
Author Alan Jay Lerner used the comedy »Pygmalion« by the English Nobel Prize winner George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950) as basis for the musical. An ideal play for the Freies Landestheater Bayern, which has always focussed on the examination of dialect in its artistic ventures. Naturally, the »lady« converses in Bavarian dialect at the Freies Landestheater Bayern, which does not please her master but provides the audience with plenty of laughs.
