Musical in 2 acts by Frederick Loewe and Alan Jay Lerner
Based on Bernard Shaw’s »Pygmalion« and the film by Gabriel Pascal
Performed in German language/Bavarian dialect
Recommended from 10 years
Duration: 160 minutes. An intermission after about 80 minutes
In the Miesbach version staged by Freies Landestheater Bayern, Professor Higgins makes a lady out of the Bavarian flower girl Eliza. The road from slang to the language of polite society turns out to be stony, but thanks to Higgins’ unorthodox methods also highly entertaining.
Author Alan Jay Lerner based his musical on the comedy »Pygmalion« by English Nobel Prize winner George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950). An ideal play for the Freies Landestheater Bayern, whose artistic ventures have time and again focussed on dialect. Naturally, the »lady« converses in the Bavarian dialect at the Freies Landestheater Bayern, which does not please her master but provides the audience with plenty of laughs.
