With Benjamin Britten’s »War Requiem«, the Orchestre de Paris is performing a special composition of the post-war period as well as a work about international understanding. The line-up, from the UK, Germany, France and Russia, is as outstanding as it is iconic. The composition was premiered in 1962 on the occasion of the inauguration of the newly built cathedral in Coventry, England, which had been destroyed by the German Luftwaffe in 1940.

The English and Latin vocal parts are performed by three outstanding vocalists: Andrew Staples (UK), Albina Shagimuratova (Russia) and the German baritone Christian Gerhaher – one of the most distinguished interpreters especially in the areas of lied and concert. The renowned Orchestre de Paris will be performing under the baton of Oxford-born Daniel Harding, who has also been the orchestra’s artistic director since 2016. The international line-up manifestly and persuasively brings the work’s theme of reconciliation to the fore.
