Ana de la Vega, flute
Conductor: Heiko Mathias Förster
The third season of for »Sonntag um 3« (Sunday at 3): In the 2019/20 season, this concert series invites you once again to spend your Sunday afternoons immersed in the wonders of classical music. The season will be opened with Australian flautist Ana de la Vega – a »star in the making«, as news magazine Spiegel wrote in its online edition. She plays the only flute concerto that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart ever composed specifically for that instrument and whose richness of ideas is all the more astonishing given that the composer was not a great devotee of the flute.
Ana de la Vega almost gave up playing the flute: When she recorded her first album after more than 15 years as a successful soloist and ensemble leader, she was well on her way to embarking on a completely new managerial career. But her outstanding talent put a spoke in her wheel: De la Vegas’s recording of two Mozart flute concertos was so well received that she finally returned to music and is today regarded one of the most extraordinary flautists of her generation. In the Philharmonic Hall, she will now perform her interpretation of Flute Concerto No 1.
