Conductor: Christian Thielemann
Christian Thielemann is one of the internationally most sought-after conductors of our time. His interpretations of the German romantic opera and concert repertoire are considered exemplary throughout the world. The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung concluded that Christian Thielemann as chief conductor had led the Staatskapelle Dresden to the »apex of its glorious sound«.
»It was a feast for ears and eyes alike: Sol Gabetta received the Herbert von Karajan Prize at the Salzburg Easter Festival in the Festspielhaus festival hall. The Argentinian cellist had previously played Schumann’s Cello Concerto with the Staatskapelle Dresden under the baton of Christian Thielemann to great applause. Just to watch her aesthetic play was pure joy. Approaching Schumann's Concerto in A minor with a warm and heavy feel, she approached the runs with a light-footedness that evoked associations with a dance. She immersed herself fully in the opus, every now and again seeking brief points of orientation in Thielemann's gaze. The result was a pleasant dynamic that culminated in a torrential river.« (Volksblatt 3/2018)
