Conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas
Michael Tilson Thomas is considered by many to be the American conductor of our time. Initially celebrated as a child prodigy, Leonard Bernstein’s close confidant made his international breakthrough in 1995 when he was appointed Music Director of the San Francisco Symphony. Succeeding Herbert Blomstedt, he achieved numerous successes together with the orchestra, winning ten Grammys, while Tilson Thomas himself was awarded the »National Medal of Arts«. After the 2019/20 season, the 75-year-old will hand over the principal conductor’s baton to Esa-Pekka Salonen. It is therefore a special pleasure that Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony are coming to Munich in their last season together: with Saint-Saëns’ Cello Concerto, Stravinsky’s »Firebird« and his own »Street Song« for Symphonic Brass.
