SoulFood Delight concerts are food for the soul. With the musical skill and passion that the singers bring to the stage, SoulFood Delight can by now be heard well beyond the borders of Munich and as far afield as Berlin and Heilbronn.
In 2019, SoulFood Delight received two major awards: at the Carl-Friedrich-Zelter-Choir Competition in Heilbronn the choir achieved first place; and at the competition »Sing Dein Bestes« of the Bayerischer Sängerbund, SoulFood Delight took part »with outstanding success«. Led by Patrick Prestel, the choir has taken the novel step of using microphones for the bass and beatbox voices to create a powerful sound and dynamic groove. The spectrum of songs ranges from David Guetta and Hozier to Pharrell Williams and Prince, from Bob Dylan to Stevie Wonder. Exciting arrangements by Pentatonix, MAYBEBOP, Vocal Line and others characterise the choir’s demanding and varied repertoire. For its modern interpretation of the folk song »Dat du min Leevsten büst«, SoulFood Delight received a special prize in 2019. No less varied than its repertoire is the choir’s sound: soft jazz, groovy R&B and catchy pop, performed with the precision and intensity of adept and versatile voices.
As a tenor and vocal percussionist, Patrick Prestel was, for 15 years, a member of the award-winning rock & jazz choir »VoicesInTime«, with which he performed in Europe, China, South Korea and Cuba. He gained his first experience as a conductor by conducting his own arrangements. With the project choir »Chamber Choir of Europe«, he sang concerts with Bobby McFerrin and Wolf Biermann as well as at the Echo Awards 2016. He was also a member of the youth choir Bayerische Singakademie (now the Bayerischer Landesjugendchor) and the a cappella groups »The Quartbreakers« and »Elevator Pitch«. In 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014 he was invited to the European Forum of Young Composers for Vocal Music. After completing his training as a pop & jazz choir leader at the Federal Academy in Wolfenbüttel, Patrick Prestel founded the pop choir »SoulFood Delight« in 2015 and took over as director of the choir »Isartonics« in 2018. Since 2019, he also conducts the »Choir of the Five Continents«.
As a commissioned arranger and composer, Patrick Prestel works for ensembles such as »VoicesInTime«, »Quartonal« and »Schola Cantorum Leipzig« as well as for festivals such as the EUROTREFF of the AMJ. His arrangements and compositions can be found on the repertoire list of many choirs, and some of them have been published by Bosse, Helbling and Schott. He also holds workshops for choirs and at music schools.
