Conductor: Daye Lin

The Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, based in the up-and-coming metropolis in the south-east of the country, is one of China’s most important symphony orchestras. Since its foundation in 1987, it has appeared many times throughout Asia and can now also be heard regularly in major music venues worldwide. With its Tchaikovsky Gala, the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra will perform for a Munich audience for the first time. The evening begins with Variations on a Rococo Theme for violoncello and orchestra. Uncharacteristically cheerful and friendly for Tchaikovsky, this work stands in stark contrast to the next item in the programme, his Symphony No 5. Nicknamed »Fate«, this is a compelling masterpiece that shows the composer at the height of his musical creativity.
