Everyone is invited to celebrate the beginning of the project The Munich Vigil – »Türmer München«. The Vigil is a participatory performance by choreographer Joanne Leighton (WLDN), which will take place on the roof of the Gasteig from 12.12.2020 to 12.12.2021 – twice a day every day, for 365 consecutive days. Like the »Türmer« – the watchmen of the Middle Ages – the 730 participants will keep watch over the city for one hour at a time, high above the Philharmonic Hall. Due to the Tenth Bavarian Infection Protection Regulation, we are unfortunately not allowed to welcome any »Türmer« in the Shelter on the roof of the Gasteig, which we very much regret. Nevertheless, we invite everyone to start the project together with us and start the Munich Vigil year from home. (All the »Türmer« have already been informed by email, details on the modified procedure are available here.)

About the programme:
The Münchener Kammerorchester will play, conducted by Clemens Schuldt.
A live switch to Paris to see artist and choreographer Joanne Leighton is planned (Here you can find an interview with her). The guest is the 1st »Türmer« in Munich. Future »Türmer« reveal in personal messages what they are looking forward to most. There is exciting background information on the history of the project and the »Türmer« from St Peter’s Church in Munich, Joachim Wallner, will tell you about his experiences high above the rooftops of Munich. The Opening Ceremony will be presented by Max Wagner, the managing director of Gasteig München GmbH and Robert Ernst Castellitz, head of event management at the Gasteig.
