Symphony Orchestra of the Vienna Volksoper

Two ballet couples
Conductor: Ola Rudner

A father and his three sons – together, they changed the world with their enthusiasm for a music that everyone loves: the waltz. It was Johann Strauss’ son who took the the measured ballroom dance and created from it a fast-paced, sensuous genre that became the expression of the Viennese way of life par excellence. With the help of his brothers Eduard and Josef, he kept all of Vienna on its toes. »Rosen aus dem Süden«, »Kaiser-Walzer« (»Emperor Waltz«) and »The Blue Danube« are just a few of the many popular waltzes that Johann Strauss, who is rightly regarded as the master of three-quarter time, has bestowed on us.

Steeped in tradition and with a lively joie de vivre, the orchestra of the Vienna Volksoper dedicates itself mainly to opera and operetta. On this evening, the Volksoper presents the many immortal melodies of the Waltz King with esprit and brilliance, performing a cross-section of the »champagne music« of the 19th century. Singers and ballet dancers provide a feast for both eyes and ears.
