Xin Nian Kuai Le! Happy New Year!
Munich Spring Festival Gala
| Carl-Orff-Saal/Carl Orff Hall
This is a past event.
While most countries celebrate New Year’s Eve on 31 December and begin their new year on 1 January, the Chinese follow the lunar calendar and celebrate this most important traditional festival of the year accordingly. The Chinese New Year festival, also known as the Chinese Spring Festival, celebrates both the successful previous year and the beginning of a prosperous new year. On what is, in effect, the Chinese New Year’s Eve (»Chuxi Night«), families traditionally take a meal together and watch the annual Spring Festival Gala performance on television.
In 2020, the Chinese New Year celebrations will take place on 25 January. The Gasteig will celebrate this important event with a special performance in the Carl Orff Hall on 22 January – »the Munich Spring Festival Gala«. From a Chinese tenor to the traditional lion dance and a kung fu denonstration, the varied programme includes more than ten acts. The festival offers Chinese people living in Germany the chance of a get-together and anyone interested in Chinese culture the opportunity to gain an insight into Chinese tradition.
