Israel Philharmonic Orchestra
Fazil Say, piano
Conductor: Zubin Mehta
Poetic genius at the conductor’s desk: Zubin Mehta, musical director of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra for life, on a farewell tour after over 1000 concerts and almost 50 years of collaboration. He is one of the most ingenious conductors of the present day. Zubin Mehta became a master of discreet beautification. Without smoothing out orchestral sounds, he creates symphonic atmospheres that impress with their unity and poetic intensity. His great success affirms his approach.
In 1936, the violinist Bronislaw Huberman, one of the most successful musicians of his time, used his influence to enable numerous Jewish musicians in Germany and Europe to leave for Palestine. On 26 December 1936, Arturo Toscanini conducted the first concert in Tel Aviv. Honorary conductor for life was Leonard Bernstein. Today the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra is the musical ambassador of the State of Israel and is considered one of the best orchestras in the world. For the first time in 20 years, it will give a guest performance in Munich.
