Why Buy When You Can Borrow? Tools For Creative Projects at the Gasteig
We’re delighted to have the Erfindergarden Tool Library at the Gasteig until January: Borrowing tools for a modest fee is clearly more environment-friendly than buying tools that will be rarely used. No surprise, then, that the Erfindergarden team’s lending service has already seen a great deal of demand since Munich’s first tool library opened up at the Gasteig this summer. Originally stationed in a container on the Forum, the tool library is now, thanks to the support of the Munich City Library, located in the small shop on the Gasteig Forum right next to the Rosenheimer Platz S-Bahn station exit – convenient tool transport for DIYers and those who likes to borrow rather than buy.
Do it yourself without buying your own tools!
Tuesdays from 1 to 3 PM and Saturdays from 2 to 4 PM, tools of all sizes, right up to 3D printers, sewing machines and even a mobile welding workshop are available for loan. The Tool Library’s online catalogue also features other useful items for special occasions, such as bicycle trailers, hand carts and party table and bench sets. All this for a small rental fee of € 1 to 3 per day for up to 7 days.
Here’s how it works: Simply reserve the items you want to borrow online and pick them up at the shop at the Gasteig on a Tuesday from 1 to 3 PM or Saturday from 2 to 4 PM. Before using the lending service for the first time, you’ll need to complete a one-time registration and when first visiting the (physical) shop, you must verify your new account with a photo ID. Find like-minded people and inspiration in the Erfindergarden workshops
The Erfindergarden team is planning further practical workshops, in which participants can familiarise themselves with tools and meet like-minded people. Inspirational DIY books are also available for browsing or borrowing. The Erfindergarden team is still looking for volunteers for the Saturday library service, so if you’re looking for something to do in your spare time, get in touch with them.
If you want to save money, conserve resources and meet like-minded people, look no further than the Tool Library at the Gasteig. For up-to-the-minute information and photos of DIYers’ creations, visit the Erfindergarden Facebook page
