At last, something new to read from the City Library! Münchner Stadtbibliothek / Eva Jünger

There is light at the end of the tunnel: The latest decision from the Bavarian Council of Ministers has extended the click & collect scheme to cover libraries as well, so they are finally allowed to issue books, films, games and much more again.

The Munich City Library has been given permission to operate a click & collect service: You can order library items again from 10 AM on Wednesday, 27 January 2021 – by accessing the online catalogue via your account, by phone or by email. You can access the City Library in Gasteig via the entrance in the Glass Hall, where you can also collect and return items from the Children’s/Youth Library. The entrance to the Children’s/Youth Library will remain closed.

To make sure that as many Munich residents as possible can use the library service, the maximum number of items that you can order at any one time has been restricted to five. The maximum number of items you can have out on loan has been increased from 20 to 25. If the system shows that an item is available, ordering it is free. Items that are out on loan can be reserved for a fee of € 1.25 or € 0.65.

This is how to collect items
You can collect items – subject to availability – no later than three working days after you order them. If you want to make sure that an item is ready for collection, you can check your user account for information (under »Ausleihen«). If you have any questions, you can also contact the Munich City Library by phone. You can collect items during the library’s normal opening hours. Please bring your library card with you.

And this is how to return them
You can also return items during the normal opening hours for each library. Please return your items to the same place where you collected them. Items can also be returned via the return machines.

Are any other services available?
Unfortunately, the library cannot handle contactless till transactions, renew library cards, etc., so these services are not available on site. However, you can still pay fees etc. online via your user account in the online catalogue.

As well as the click & collect service, you can also access a diverse online range (external link) of e-books, audiobooks, magazines and online events on the Munich City Library YouTube channel. This range will continue to expand.

Important information for visitors!
To avoid gatherings of people, please avoid visiting the Munich City Library at peak periods (shortly before closing, on Saturdays) and please visit alone, if possible.
