German Courses and Advice for Refugees at the Münchner Volkshochschule Adult Education Centre
People who have a Ukrainian identity card or have registered as refugees from Ukraine can book a place on the language courses, which are free of charge. All German courses and advice services offered by the MVHS can be found online at mvhs.de/ukraine. Due to the high demand, many courses are already fully booked, but the offer is constantly being expanded and updated.
Free language courses for quick orientation in everyday life
We want refugees to be able to quickly communicate and find their way around Munich: Many of the courses therefore provide basic German language skills for everyday life. There are also courses for learners with previous knowledge and age-appropriate offers for young people from the age of 15. The courses take place at various locations throughout Munich. The offer is constantly being expanded and updated. Refugees also receive a 50 per cent discount on all other MVHS courses and events.
Personal advice on the MVHS hotline: +49 89 480066333
Refugees wishing to learn German as well as their helpers and supporters can call the multilingual hotline of the Münchner Volkshochschule on +49 89 48006 6333. There, you will receive advice and further information about the offers for people from Ukraine. Lines are open Mondays and Tuesdays from 9 AM to 1 PM and Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2 PM to 7 PM.
Childcare support wanted!
The MVHS has set up additional childcare facilities for younger children in its own children’s houses. There, children will be looked after while their parents attend German courses. The MVHS is still looking for people who can get involved in childcare on a full-time or voluntary basis. Relevant qualifications and experience as well as Russian or Ukrainian language skills are desirable but not prerequisite. Further information on the MVHS children’s houses (in German language).
Language courses for helpers & events about Ukraine
In a new beginners’ course in Ukrainian, aimed especially at refugee helpers and supporters in Munich, you can learn the basics for communicating in Ukrainian in the most important situations. The MVHS adult education centre has included a number of events on the history and culture of Ukraine as well as on the political background of the current war in its programme. These events can also be found on the website of the MVHS adult education centre at mvhs.de/ukraine.
»Munich welcomes refugees. Once they are safe and have found accommodation, it is vital that they can organise their everyday life in this exceptional situation in a self-determined, independent way. With the Munich adult education centre, we have an experienced provider of language and integration courses on site who can provide refugees with excellent support, both professionally and institutionally,« says Verena Dietl, Mayor and Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of the MVHS adult education centre. The MVHS is the largest provider of German courses in Munich. With 21,800 participants per year alone in courses for German as a foreign language, including exams, it is paying an indispensable contribution to integration.
