MVHS has New Management Director

Since 1 November 2020, the Münchner Volkshochschule adult education centre (MVHS) has a new Managing Director. Dr. Martin Ecker succeeds Prof. Dr. Klaus Meisel, who is retiring after more than 14 years as MVHS Managing Director.

Dr. Martin Ecker will join the existing Programme Director Dr. Susanne May on the management board of Münchner Volkshochschule to take the institute forward together. »I look forward to working with Martin Ecker. He is familiar with Munich’s education sector and is very well connected«, says Susanne May, who has long known and valued her new colleague.

Dr. Martin Ecker (*1967) holds a doctorate in theatre studies and a master’s degree in adult education. He is a member of the supervisory board of the Bavarian Adult Education Association and gained his professional experience mainly in adult education. From 2006 to 2016, he was head of the inlingua language school in Munich. Since 2018, Ecker has been Director of the City of Nuremberg’s Education Campus and in this position is responsible for the city’s libraries in addition to his new role in the adult education centre.
Ecker is returning to Munich for his work at the Münchner Volkshochschule, where his responsibilities will lie in the commercial and administrative areas at Germany’s largest municipal educational establishment, with a focus on finance and controlling, personnel and organisation, IT and location development.

Regarding his future work, Dr. Martin Ecker says: »The MVHS with its numerous locations in the city pays an important contribution to providing basic cultural services in Munich. Especially in difficult times, we must ensure that the population has broad and affordable access to educational opportunities. The Münchner Volkshochschule provides Bavaria’s capital with professional learning facilities for all generations – at its headquarters in Gasteig and Einstein 28 as well as in numerous centres throughout Munich.

Welcome to the Gasteig, Dr. Martin Ecker!
