Summer in the City: Free Open-air Programme in Front of the Gasteig
Celebrating despite corona: Many people in the city of Munich have joined forces to put on the first »Summer in the City«. The extensive programme covers the entire city and will extend into September to avoid infection hotspots. Despite hygiene regulations and distancing rules, visitors and residents alike will be able to enjoy their summer in Munich – also in front of the Gasteig. The Gasteig’s programme is curated by Munich non-profit association Theatergemeinde e. V. Under the motto »Classical – Jazz – World Music«, the free programme covers a wide range of arts and culture and brings many artists back on stage after the months-long Covid-19 hiatus.

Gasteig Specials: The Munich Philharmonic (already over)
Due to weather conditions the first family day of the Munich Philharmonic »#MPhilOpenAir: The Philis are on vacation« had to be postponed from August 29 to Friday September 4. From 11 AM till 2 PM, children, their parents and grandparents are invited to body percussion, riddles and, of course, lots of music! On September 5, a day of chamber music under the motto »MPhilOpenAir: Wir sind wieder da« (»We’re back again«) awaits. The line-up includes a string quartet, a woodwind trio and hornists from the ranks of the Munich Philharmonic. On several evenings from 29 August to 5 September, concert video recordings and streams will be screened under an open sky in front of the Gasteig. For detailed information about these music specials, visit the website of the Munich Philharmonic.
Gasteig outdoor area turns into sports arena for young and old (already over)
Swap your high heels for trainers and visit the Gasteig’s very own »Summer in the City« parkour and wall tramp sports arena. Brick walls and architectural features are just the thing for sporting challenges. The Gasteig obstacle course is suitable for kids and adults alike. On three Saturdays (1, 15 and 29 August) from 11 AM to 6 PM, you can learn the basic tricks and techniques for negotiating obstacles in contact-free workshops with pros. As there are no changing rooms on site, we would ask you, if at all possible, to come already dressed in sportswear. Suitable footwear must be worn.
