The Vigil Network is Growing – New Performance Starts in the UK

This morning, the first Vigil in the UK spent their hour looking out over the city. Like Munich’s »Türmer«, Vigils in Hull (as Kingston upon Hull is usually known) will spend a year watching over the Yorkshire city at sunrise and sunset every day from the roof of Hull College.

This is the UK premiere of this monumental performance and »The Hull Vigil« was the brainchild of the »Freedom Festival« organisation, which stages international art festivals. Hull is therefore following in the footsteps of Belfort, Laval, Rennes, Haguenau, Freiburg, Evreux, Dordrecht, Graz and Munich, becoming the tenth city with a Shelter. From autumn 2021, the performance created by choreographer Joanne Leighton and architect Benjamin Tovo will also visit Paris.

We hope the Hull Vigils enjoy and are inspired by their performance.

The Türmer project in Munich will run until the middle of December 2021. All spots are now booked through to the end of August and registration for places from 01 September to 12 December 2021 starts on 01 July 2021. In the meantime, you can enjoy the view from the Türmer webcam online or read about the experiences of previous Vigils on this website.
