What a Beautiful Opening at the Isarphilharmonie Tobias Hase

With a speech by Munich's Lord Mayor and a festive concert by the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra with Valery Gergiev and star pianist Daniil Trifonov, the Gasteig HP8 cultural area and the new Isarphilharmonie were ceremoniously opened on 8 October.

A new beginning for culture

As one of the first major events in Bavaria, the opening took place in compliance with the new 3G plus rule. Gasteig Managing Director Max Wagner: »It was moving to finally experience a full house again just in time for the opening of the Isarphilharmonie! This is a long-awaited sign and a new beginning for the cultural scene that has been so battered in the pandemic.«

The Island of the Blissful

Alexandra Gruber, principal clarinettist of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, enthused, »We feel like we are on an island of the blissful.«

Foreboding and anticipation

Mayor Dieter Reiter said in his opening speech: »Everyone is enthusiastic about the Isarphilharmonie: chief conductor, musicians, acousticians, cultural journalists – the only thing missing is the audience. If they are also enthusiastic, I have a faint premonition that this interim will stay with us for a relatively long time.«
