Arts and culture are not only pleasure. They can also lead to a more fulfilling life. A personal and communal participation in arts and culture means to speak the same language.
In 2007, the Gasteig München GmbH, together with business, charity and media partners, created an academy with the goal of providing young people, primarily from non-academic backgrounds, with the opportunity to engage in arts and culture: the Junge Akademie Gasteig (Young Academy Gasteig). The academists co-work responsibly in projects led by professional artists. This way, art adoption becomes an active personal experience and can lead to a self-assured, dynamic and responsible participation in the cultural life of a society.
In 2014 the Junge Akademie Gasteig had a cooperation with the »Filmfest München« (Munich film festival), which took place from June 27th until July 5th. While attending all big events during the film festival, the academists participated in several workshops for acting and film-making; additionally they went on excursions to important places of film- and TV-production and theatres, where they received an interesting backstage impression of the film-business. Together with young directors from the »Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen München« (University of Television and Film Munich) the participants of the Junge Akademie Gasteig produced three individual film documentaries about the film festival.
The 2013 edition of the Akademie covered several cultural topics and was centered around the cooperation with the Galerie Handwerk (craftsmanship gallery) who held an exhibition at the Gasteig in autumn of 2013. The academists created their own pieces of art in photography and upcycling workshops which they presented during the exhibition. Ten project days also introduced them to the business of exhibitions in all its facets, including the concept, the dramatic composition and marketing.
The year of 2012 was filled with two Akademie projects. During the first half of the year, the academists focused on supporting the »ALLES GUT!« festival which showcased 111 events to collect money for a good cause. In the second part of the year, »jazz around gasteig« brought four free jazz concerts in cooperation with the jazz institute of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater. The concerts were moderated by academists.
In 2011 the Akademie naturally congratulated the trustee on the anniversary day. The main project content was the communication between people, and between art and people. The public saw the results in two ways: the young people provided a professional service to the audience of the three day »Gasteig Elements« festival and showcased two performances.
In 2010 the theatre production »Visions and Concepts of Life« was once again the main focus due to its previous success. The apprentices designed and implemented a »Vision Workshop« at the Gasteig where they presented their own work on this topic. And in addition, an invitation went out to young artists who had achieved their first successes in their dream job. In addition, GREEN ROOM was performed again – supported by the Willy Bogner company.
In 2009 the Junge Akademie Gasteig, the young academy, developed the GREEN ROOM theatre play in cooperation with the Willy Bogner company. It was enacted by graduates from the Neue Münchner Schauspielschule, the new Munich acting school. The Akademie apprentices took part in all production processes.
In 2008 classical concerts for a young audience, an exhibition about materials in art and craftmanship as well as an open air festival with bands from Munich were organised in cooperation with the BMW branch in Munich.
