The Munich Philharmonic in Your Home

The Munich Philharmonic in Your Home Stephan Haack, associate solo cellist Andreas Merz

Normally, the Munich Philharmonic meets in the Gasteig almost every day. Cellist Stephan Haack even refers to the Philharmonic Hall as his »living room«. But the Coronavirus has changed all that: Joint rehearsals and concerts have been suspended and for the time being the orchestra members cannot have personal contact with each other or with their audience. Instead, they now give private sessions to enjoy at home.

»MPhil Dahoam« (»MPhil at home«) is the name of a new series of short online videos in which members of the Munich Philharmonic perform from their homes – without evening dress, but with all the more wit and humour. Watch fellow musicians chatting to each other on the phone, listen to quartet performances from multiple locations and enjoy clarinettist Albert Osterhammer perform to his live audience of cuddly toys, seated on his sofa.

You can watch all previous and new episodes of »MPhil Dahoam« on the Facebook page of the Munich Philharmonic.

Also available online are complete concerts of the Munich Philharmonic: For 30 days, Medici TV is making video recordings of the orchestra’s performances available free of charge, including the orchestra’s current repertoire under musical director Valery Gergiev as well as legendary concerts with Sergiu Celibidache. For your private concert, visit Medici TV and set up your free guest account.

»In the current situation, which is so terrible and uncertain for all of us, I think it is very, very important for us to keep calm and follow instructions but remain positive, look to the future and not let ourselves be dragged down. We none of us know how long it will take, but I'm looking forward to hopefully being back in my Gasteig living room soon.«
(Stephan Haack, associate solo cellist)
